A bizarre incident in Kangausaru Village has led to the arrest and conviction of Joseph Chipangano, who appeared before the Karoi Magistrates’ court facing assault charges. The altercation began on March 23, 2025, when a 12-year-old boy was herding 18 goats in the grazing lands.

As fate would have it, one of the goats strayed into Chipangano’s field, prompting him to confront the young boy. Armed with a brick, Chipangano approached the boy, throwing the brick but missing him. Undeterred, he kicked the boy in the stomach and took him to his homestead, where he locked him in a bedroom.

The situation took a darker turn as Chipangano proceeded to assault the boy with switches, leaving him with severe bruises and a swollen head and face. The boy’s ordeal finally came to an end, but the consequences of Chipangano’s actions were only just beginning.

Chipangano was fined US$200, with the threat of a two-month prison sentence looming if he failed to pay. Additionally, he received a suspended sentence of 12 months, which will be enforced if he commits another offense within the next five years.

This unusual case highlights the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and the severe consequences of resorting to violence.
