Tinotenda Hove — Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC) leader Michael Makaza has congratulated President Emmerson Mnangagwa on his birthday, while at the same time raising concern over what he described as extravagant spending on celebrations amid a struggling healthcare system.

In a statement on Wednesday, Makaza said Zimbabweans recognize Mnangagwa’s special day but expect leadership that demonstrates responsibility and prioritizes national needs.

“Happy Birthday, President Mnangagwa! As Zimbabweans, we celebrate your special day, but we’re also concerned about the lavish expenditure on birthday celebrations while our hospitals lack essential medicines and equipment,” Makaza said.

He urged Mnangagwa to set an example by directing resources toward urgent social services. “As a leader, it’s crucial to prioritize the people’s needs. We urge you to lead by example and allocate resources to improve healthcare,” he added.

Makaza’s remarks come at a time when the country’s health sector is under immense strain, with shortages of drugs, equipment, and staff being widely reported across public hospitals.

The FFC leader concluded his message with a call for justice in resource distribution. “We move for health justice,” he said, using the group’s popular slogan.
