Tinotenda Hove – Legendary former Dynamos coach Kalisto Pasuwa has sounded the alarm over the club’s deepening crisis, urging the leadership to act urgently before the team’s once-mighty legacy is lost for good.
The Harare giants suffered their worst defeat of the 2025 season on Sunday, crashing 3-0 to Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium. The result left DeMbare stuck second from bottom on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table with just 16 points from 23 games — and the threat of relegation growing more real by the week.
Pasuwa, the last coach to bring silverware to Dynamos with a historic four straight league titles between 2011 and 2014, said watching the club’s collapse was both “disturbing” and “heartbreaking”.
He told state media in a recent interview:
“I’m pleading with the leadership at Dynamos. Being a big club isn’t about the name alone. It’s about how the institution is managed. You don’t remain great simply because you’re called Dynamos. There was a time we were ahead of teams like TP Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns, but look where we are now.”
The former Warriors gaffer said the club’s stature across Southern Africa had completely eroded.
“When people talk about football in the region today, no one mentions Dynamos. That tells you something is seriously wrong and needs to be fixed,” he said.
Pasuwa also drew comparisons with rising clubs such as Scotland FC and MWOS, which he said are now setting the pace — ironically, led by people who once supported Dynamos.
“These clubs are owned by passionate people who probably used to cheer for Dynamos, but now they are the ones driving football development in the country.”
He added that loyal fans and former players are being tormented by the club’s freefall.
“It’s painful to see Dynamos in this state. I really hope those in charge reflect and do everything they can to bring back the club’s glory.”
Behind the scenes, the club’s management — led by Bernard Marriot — has been engulfed in legal wrangles and power struggles, blamed by many for the chaos now manifesting on the pitch.
The team recently suspended head coach Saul Chaminuka after a dismal run of form. His assistant, Philemon Mutyakureva, stood in for Sunday’s match, but reports suggest former Highlanders boss Kelvin Kaindu is on the verge of taking over.
With just 11 games left, Dynamos need to collect 24 points to reach the conventional safety mark of 40 — a daunting task for a side that has only scored six goals all season. Even bottom-placed Kwekwe United have more, with nine.
If Kaindu takes charge, he will inherit a team that’s mentally drained and technically lacking — facing what could be the most difficult survival mission in local football history.
Club legends like Tonderai Ndiraya, Memory Mucherahowa, and Murape Murape have also spoken out recently, calling for sweeping changes at Dynamos to avoid total collapse.
The Glamour Boys’ next match could be a turning point — or another disaster — as they host MWOS at Rufaro Stadium this Saturday.
