Tinotenda Hove – Police in Gokwe have arrested two men in connection with the gruesome murder of a 24-year-old man at Simpson Business Centre, Durban Mine, Inyathi.

National police spokesperson confirmed that Mpofu Mbekezeli (21) and Erich Nkomo were picked up on 17 September 2025 following a manhunt. The two allegedly attacked the victim, Thembani Nkomo, with a log, striking him multiple times across the body for reasons that remain unclear.

In a bid to cover up the crime, the suspects reportedly hid the body beneath a parked Howo truck. Tragically, the unsuspecting driver later drove over the body, initially leading authorities to treat the matter as a fatal road traffic accident.

The suspects fled to Gokwe after the incident but were eventually tracked down. Police have since launched a manhunt for three other suspects still at large, identified as Hlayolehle Ngwenya, Ephithule Ncube and Mhlople Duman.

Law enforcement has appealed to the public to assist in locating the fugitives. “Anyone with information should report to the nearest police station without delay,” urged the police.
