Ezra Chadzamira, the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, found himself at the centre of controversy on Saturday after making headlines for denouncing the upcoming March 31 protests, organized by war veteran Blessed Geza.
These protests, which are calling for the resignation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, have been gaining momentum across the country, with various groups voicing dissatisfaction with the current administration.
In a press briefing in Masvingo, Chadzamira dismissed the demonstrations, labeling them as the work of “enemies of progress” who seek to disrupt peace and stability in Zimbabwe. He urged the residents of Masvingo to remain calm and vigilant, saying, “We know that enemies of progress are behind the protests. Report any suspicious movements to the police.”
Despite Chadzamira’s strong stance against the protests, the minister’s own reputation has been marred by allegations of corruption and the mismanagement of farming inputs.
Reports suggest that Chadzamira may have been involved in the looting of agricultural resources that were meant to assist local farmers. These claims, if proven true, threaten to undermine his credibility and position within the government, at a time when the nation is grappling with political and economic instability.
As the March 31 protests draw nearer, tensions continue to rise, with Chadzamira’s comments likely to escalate the situation. His call for peace and stability, however, appears to be overshadowed by the growing allegations of corruption against him. The situation has left many questioning the government’s ability to address the mounting issues of governance and economic hardship that have led to widespread public dissatisfaction.
The protests, led by Blessed Geza, are expected to grow in scale as Zimbabweans continue to demand a change in leadership amid the ongoing struggles. With accusations against high-ranking officials such as Chadzamira, it is clear that the pressure on the ruling government will only intensify as the situation unfolds.
