Tinotenda Hove – A Gokwe man has been handed a 25-year prison sentence by the High Court circuit for the tragic killing of his 4-year-old daughter in a domestic altercation gone terribly wrong.
The incident occurred on February 19, 2025, at approximately 11:33 PM. Thomas Nyamadzawo had returned home and became embroiled in a heated argument with his wife over an undisclosed matter. In a fit of rage, he picked up an axe and attempted to strike his wife.
Tragically, he missed his target and instead hit his young daughter, who was being held by her mother at the time. The child was struck once on the forehead.
A bystander managed to intervene, wresting the axe away from Nyamadzawo and removing him from the hut. Despite efforts to save the girl, her mother was unable to find transport in time to get her medical help, and the child succumbed to her injuries.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has reiterated its commitment to fighting violent crime and domestic abuse, emphasizing the importance of justice for vulnerable victims.
