Tinotenda Hove – A Harare bus driver has been hauled before the courts after being arrested for reckless driving in the city centre.
Maphosa Barnabas, 49, who is employed by Timboon Coaches, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges under the Road Traffic Act.
According to police, the incident occurred on 26 August 2025 at around 11:00 am when Barnabas dangerously drove a public service vehicle against oncoming traffic at an undesignated point in a bid to pick up passengers.
Officers gave chase with sirens and flashing beacons after the driver veered onto the pavement, endangering pedestrians, before speeding off towards Msasa. He was eventually intercepted and arrested upon reaching his company garage.
Barnabas has been remanded in custody and is expected back in court on 1 September 2025 for his bail application.
