Tinotenda Hove – Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana has declared that Zimbabwe’s health sector is on the mend, citing major infrastructure projects and improved emergency response services.

Speaking on Thursday, Mangwana said, “Our health system is on a recovery path. Significant progress has been made in expanding and modernizing health facilities to ensure better service delivery.”

According to official data, 47 new health facilities have been constructed and fully completed, while 94 existing infrastructure projects have been rehabilitated or renovated. In a push to improve energy reliability, 1,074 health facilities have been solarized. Additionally, 201 facilities have benefited from borehole water projects to enhance access to clean water and sanitation.

Mangwana also highlighted the success of the Air Ambulance Service, launched in August 2024. “Since its introduction, over 260 critically ill patients have been airlifted to major health institutions,” he revealed. “Notable cases include two children who were transferred from United Bulawayo Hospitals to Parirenyatwa Hospital for advanced cancer care.”

The air ambulance program offers intensive care services onboard, a 24-hour emergency response system, and is staffed by a team of Zimbabwean and Russian doctors, nurses, and emergency medical technicians.
