Tinotenda Hove – Former Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo is alive and well, contrary to widespread social media rumours claiming he had died of prostate cancer on Wednesday morning.
Speaking to the media, Chombo’s former wife—who is also the current Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs—Marian Chombo, firmly dismissed the false reports.
“He is alive and kicking. He is at his home,” she said, clearly frustrated by the viral misinformation.
The false news, which began circulating early Wednesday, claimed that Chombo had passed away at a private hospital in Harare. The rumours quickly gained traction online, prompting family members to issue clarifications.
This is not the first time the former Cabinet minister, who served under the late President Robert Mugabe, has been targeted by death hoaxes. Family sources say Chombo is in stable health and spending time with relatives.
Officials have urged the public to verify information before spreading unconfirmed reports, particularly those concerning individuals’ health or death.
