Tinotenda Hove- Police have confirmed the arrest of 38-year-old Phillip Mutasa in connection with the killing and robbery of prominent businessman Joseph Mutangadura, who was shot dead at his Ruwa home on August 17, 2025.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said detectives from CID Homicide Harare tracked Mutasa to Mkoba Six in Gweru, where he was taken into custody on October 3 following a tip-off.
Investigators revealed that Mutasa has since identified seven alleged accomplices who remain at large. Police have launched a nationwide manhunt for the suspects as inquiries into the case continue.
Mutangadura, aged 67, was a respected entrepreneur and philanthropist whose death sparked public outrage. Reports indicated that his killers rejected offers of cash, taking only a cheap cellphone, which has led to suspicions that the attack was a deliberate hit rather than a simple robbery.
The arrest of Mutasa marks the first major breakthrough in the case, nearly two months after the murder that shocked the nation.
