Tinotenda Hove – Stellenbosch, Western Cape – Former Deputy Mayor of the Stellenbosch Municipality, Nyaniso Jindela, was shot dead on Tuesday evening in what authorities are describing as a targeted attack. The fatal shooting occurred in the Western Cape, sending shockwaves through local government circles and raising fears of political violence.
According to preliminary information, Jindela was gunned down outside his residence under circumstances that remain unclear. Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the incident but were unable to save him. He was declared dead on site.
Police have confirmed that a murder investigation is underway, with specialized units deployed to examine the circumstances surrounding the killing. While the exact motive remains unknown, law enforcement has stated that the possibility of a political assassination has not been ruled out.
“We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness,” said a Western Cape Police Spokesperson. “
At this stage, we are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine whether this was a politically motivated attack or driven by other factors.”
Jindela, a prominent figure in local politics, served as Deputy Mayor of Stellenbosch during a time marked by both infrastructural progress and internal party tensions.
