Harare- 17 people were killed and several others critically injured in a horrific head on collision between a haulage truck and a commuter omnibus along Seke Road this morning.

The accident, which reportedly killed 15 passengers who were in the kombi and 2 other pedestrians, occured near Hunyani Bridge. It reportedly left emergency crews retrieving bodies from mangled wreckage.
Yet to be confirmed reports claim that of those who survived the crash, 3 people were rushed to hospital but their conditions are critical.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the tragedy in a post and said:
The ZRP confirms a road traffic accident which occurred this morning along Chitungwiza Road involving a haulage truck and a kombi.

The Police urges the media and public to be patient as police officers are currently attending the scene. More details will be released in due course.”
Witnesses claim that the accident was caused by a Honda Fit which allegedly veered into the path of the haulage truck forcing it to swerve onto oncoming traffic. The truck reportedly hit 2 pedestrians killing them on the spot.

It then collided head-on with a kombi traveling in the opposite direction from town to St Mary’s.
It is alleged that on impact, the truck dragged and crushed the omnibus beneath its huge frame, flattening it beyond recognition.
Eyewitnesses at the scene also claimed that they could hear cries of agony as some of the passengers in the kombi, including minors who had been trapped pleaded for assistance.
Around mid-day, Seke Road remained closed as rescue operations involving firefighters, ambulance crews, and police worked towards clearing the wreck.
Netizens took to social media to express their shock at yet another tragedy along Seke Road.
On Sunday, there was another accident involving a kombi near Prospect industrial park which also claimed the lives of the driver and several passengers.
